Hospital, Senior Living & Skilled Nursing Facility Signings

Compassionate, professional, mobile notary services brought directly to the patient's bedside, when and where it's needed most.

A Notary You Can Trust

I'm Amy Hill, your local mobile notary. Whether it's a hospital room or a care community, I understand that these signings often happen during some of life's most tender and stressful moments — and they deserve a notary who treats them that way.

As an NNA and LSS certified notary, I'm trained to handle sensitive signings with care — confirming identity, checking for signing capacity, and making sure every document is executed correctly under California law. I'm also bonded, E&O insured, and background checked, so you and your family can feel confident inviting me to a bedside, a care facility, or wherever you need me.

As a member of the National Aging in Place Council, I have a particular passion for helping seniors and their families navigate these visits with patience, dignity, and zero rush — because getting it right matters more than getting it fast.

Who is This Service For

  • Adult children arranging care for aging parents
  • Hospital patients needing urgent documents signed
  • Families of assisted living or memory care residents
  • Case managers, social workers, or discharge planners coordinating on a patient's behalf
  • Attorneys needing signings completed for hospitalized or facility-based clients

Hospital & Bedside Signings

Providing bedside notarizations for patients who are unable to leave the hospital, coordinating with nursing staff and visitor protocols to make the visit as smooth as possible. This includes powers of attorney, HIPAA authorizations, and other time-sensitive documents needed during a hospital stay. I'm experienced in assessing the environment respectfully and working around medical equipment, visiting hours, and patient comfort.

Assisted Living & Senior Living Communities

For residents in assisted living or independent senior communities, I handle estate planning documents, powers of attorney, and general notary needs on-site — working around your loved one's schedule and the community's visitation guidelines.

Skilled Nursing & Rehab Facilities

Skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility residents often need documents notarized during short-term stays. I coordinate directly with facility staff to confirm visitation windows and any facility-specific requirements.

Note: For Advance Health Care Directives signed in a skilled nursing facility, California Probate Code §4675 requires a patient advocate or long-term care ombudsman witness in addition to notarization — I can advise on this requirement, but notarization alone does not satisfy it. (See our AHCD page for full details.)

What to Expect at the Appointment

Capacity Check

Whether you're at home, in a hospital room, or in an assisted living or skilled nursing facility, I come to you and move at whatever pace the moment calls for — patient, unhurried, and respectful of what can often be a stressful or emotional time. As a member of the National Aging in Place Council, I have a particular passion for helping seniors and their families navigate important documents with dignity and care.

  • ID Verification — I'll confirm the signer's identity using a valid, government-issued photo ID, as required by California law for every notarization.
  • Capacity Check — Before notarizing, I need to be confident the signer understands the document and is signing knowingly, willingly, and free from pressure or influence — including well-meaning family members or caregivers. In hospital settings, medication or illness can affect alertness, so I take the time needed to feel confident before proceeding. If I have any concerns about capacity or undue influence, I may need to pause, reschedule, or decline the signing, consistent with my duties as a notary.
  • Coordination with Staff & Facilities — I'm comfortable working alongside nurses, hospital staff, or facility caregivers to find the right moment for signing, and I'll follow any facility-specific check-in or visitor procedures. Some skilled nursing facilities have additional requirements, such as involving the facility ombudsman for certain documents — I'm familiar with these and make sure they're followed correctly.
  • Privacy During Signing — I may ask for a brief moment alone with the signer, even if family or caregivers are present. This isn't a reflection on anyone in the room — it simply helps ensure the signing is truly the signer's own decision.
  • Notarization — Once everything is confirmed, I'll complete the appropriate notarial certificate and notarize the signature according to California law.

Whether it's a bedside signing or a visit to a loved one's care community, my goal is the same: to handle the paperwork with care, so you can focus on what matters most.
