Frequently Asked Questions

A notary public is an official appointed by the state government to witness and certify the signing of legal documents.

By law, notaries can't provide documents or advise which documents to use. We can however, print documents provided to us.

In some cases where your name on your ID does not match your name on the document, a notary can still proceed with the notarization as long as the notary can reasonably determine that you are indeed the same person named in the document.

Anyone over the age of 18 can be a witness as long as they don't have a beneficial or financial interest in the document. They don't need to know the signer, nor do they need to provide an ID. They just need to watch the person sign the document, and then they sign their own name. If you don't have access to a witness, we can provide one for you. In the state of California, a notary can also be a witness to the same document they notarize.

Yes! Documents written in a foreign language can be notarized in California. Only the notary certificate needs to be in English.

The Notary Public must be able to directly communicate with the signer. The use of a translator is prohibited. You will need a notary that speaks the same language as the signer.
